What is the Befriender Service?

You’ve had a long journey, you’re in a new place with new people and you have to face sharing a room with a complete stranger. Recipe for disaster? Well that’s what some people think. And it’s true that the prospect of being in such close proximity with a person you have never met before can be daunting.

However, despite peoples anxieties we have heard lots of positive reports from people who have taken the plunge to room share. Many have enjoyed having someone to go into dinner with, a person to chat to at the end of the day and an opportunity to really get to know someone. In fact some of our members are disappointed if we are unable to find a room mate for them. It seems that room sharing is one of the best ways to make a real friendship and there’s also the added bonus of future room shares and associated savings.

So to help your holiday get off to the best start we are offering those who share rooms on our breaks our Befriender Service. So in future if you would like to get in touch with the person you will be sharing with before your holiday so you can chat and get to know one another, just tell us when you book. We can release their details to you and visa versa if they have agreed to use this service.

10 (Sensible & Tongue in Cheek) Top tips for Room Sharing

  1. If you strike up a friendship with someone of the same gender on one of our events, swop details so you can arrange a room share together on future events.
  2. Use our Befriender Service. Contact the other person to put them at ease and if you don’t live too far away from each other even arrange to meet up.
  3. Make sure you give the other person space.
  4. Don’t use up all the hangers or cover every available surface (including their bed) with your stuff!
  5. Don’t leave a trail of clothes and towels.
  6. If it’s your custom to wake early and praise the Lord in song and dance—Resist!!!
  7. If you’re a sleep walker—book a single room!
  8. Do make the other person a cuppa and be considerate when coming in late at night.
  9. If you often need to get up several times during the night bring a torch...a small one!
  10. Last but not least, packing some ear plugs could avoid your holiday turning into an unplanned murder mystery
